Matthew Lloyd

Some time ago, a blog post featured on this site was quoted in an article by a respected[1] New Zealand classicist who described me as a nearly-anonymous archaeology postgrad. When I read this blog post – also possibly some time after it was written – I was taken aback because I had not realised that I had nearly-anonymised myself on this blog. I had also neglected, for nearly two years, to update my status to “no longer a postgrad”.

I have taken the step now to update this website so that I am identified by name in the address. Frustratingly, having done so, the link to my blog from the aforementioned classicist has been broken, but the blog in question is here, if you’re interested.

As to who I actually am, that’s a lot. I am a white cisgendered British immigrant in and permanent resident of Canada, living in southwestern Ontario on lands that fall under the frustratingly vague Treaty 3. My pronouns are he/him. I am married. I grew up mostly in the town of Wolverhampton and then the City of Wolverhampton, before moving to Oxford, then Ceredigion, then back to Oxford. I have a doctorate in archaeology from the University of Oxford and I currently work as the curator of a small-town museum. I like to read and write. I would like to be read and be written about. My name is Matthew Lloyd.
